There are several dozen species in this genus. Native to the tropical Americas, many of the species are popular as pot plants due to their decorative leaves and, in some species, colorful inflorescence. They are commonly called calatheas or (like their relatives) prayer plants. The uniqueness on the leaves alone will stop you in your tracks. the Calathea ‘ White Star’s leaves appear strikingly like paint brush strokes. Like other species in the Marantaceae family, these plants raise their leaves during the night as if they were praying, earning them the nickname “prayer plant”. NATIVE LAND: Tropic South America
WATER: Allow top 1 inch of soil to dry before watering again. Water thoroughly.
